UWS Real Estate: 15 Central Park West Penthouse On The Market for $88 Million

Pretty nice view to wake up to every morning, right? It can be yours for just $88 million dollars.
Let me say that again: Eighty-eight million dollars.
That’s the asking price for former Citigroup Chairman & CEO Sandy Weill’s penthouse at 15 Central Park West. If it closes anywhere near that number, it will be the most expensive apartment ever sold in New York City. The apartment was purchased in 2007 for $43.7 million, so apparently the real estate market isn’t too shabby for everyone.
On the plus side, Weill and his wife have announced they’re donating all the proceeds from the sale to charity. They’ll be moving to a “much smaller” apartment they own on the sixth floor of the building.
The apartment features 6,744 sf of interior space, plus another 2,077 sf of space on the wrap-around terrace (the terrace can be accessed from any one of 19 glass doors). While there are 6 1/2 bathrooms, growing families should take note there are only 4 bedrooms.
The master bedroom, pictured above, was originally designed in a standard rectangular fashion. It was redesigned as an oval for unobstructed views of the sun rising over Central Park in the morning.
Additional coverage at The Wall Street Journal, Curbed, and Gothamist. The real estate listing from Brown Harris Stevens doesn’t have much information at the moment, but the apartment was featured in Architectural Digest last year and they’ve got got a slide show (photos below — credit Durston Saylor — with additional descriptions at AD’s website).
